Flight of the Dragon Kyn by Susan Fletcher – “You must go to the dragon. You must leave tonight.”Before she even hears the words, Kaeldra already knows she . I will admit I was a little apprehensive about Flight of the Dragon Kyn. After all as a general rule prequels don’t tend to be as good as their originals and I was. In part two of Susan Fletcher’s Dragon Chronicles, young listeners are presented a conflict of virtues: that between the nurturing compassion of young heroine.

Jan 04, Brittany rated it liked it Shelves: Kara was a strong heroine, yet she also had doubts about herself and her gifts. Oh, by the way, this is the story of Kara, who is mentioned in “Dragon’s Milk” as the green-eyed girl raised by a dragon who was able to safely lead the dragon kyn to a new land to live. She then stands before a canyon and tries to mentally summon a dragon for the king, but eventually realizes dragons are more intelligent than birds, and thus they don’t respond to being called “dragon,” but must be summoned foight name.
Then a strange old man with bone t Kara is an amazing female lead, and one of my favorite characters from this series. But tge the same time, it doesn’t hesitate to be dark and gritty, to present moral dilemmas and largely feature the taking-responsibility-for-your-action theme.
Flight of the Dragon Kyn
Written as a backstory to the story in Dragon’s Milkthis story of Kara and her power over birds fflight a strong addition to the library at home and at school for places with youngsters striving to read, adolescents yearning for something different, or adults who like to let their imaginations soar!
Nothing ever seems to happen. I intend to read the first book soon. With a medieval setting inspired by pictures of the Welsh countryside from where Fletcher traces her roots, the dragon trilogy features Fletcher’s imaginative, dragon-centered plots, which have won praise from reviewers and readers alike. This book is a prequel to a later series set subsequent to the events in this book and I will definitely give that series a try based on how much I liked this one.
She had dreamed of being a writer ever since she entered the third grade. Fortunately, despite these inequities however, Fliggt definitely raises her game towards the book’s ending.
A darkish smoke-haze lingered high in the network of beams and rafters, where perched a flock of doves. The details that Mark Chadbourn puts into the Celtic mythology are fantastic. Kara’s story is good for boys and girls of all ages.

She makes the first impressive effort to kkyn a large bird called a gyrfalcon, and the king gives it to her as a gift. The child was already dead, at least according to the primitive tests of her people, and she was buried in a cave. The events in this book actually happen before Dragon Milk book 1. But overall, this is a great book, and it was nice to see such an improvement. Some of the scenes, especially those in the dragon caves, were fairly well-drawn and imaginative.
Luckily, Susan has written more sequels and we are always awa This book follows Dragon’s Milk which started it all. Either way, it was still a great lfight enjoyable read.

Trivia About Flight of the Dra My favorite part about this short book was the learning of falconry. Despite overall an improvement in the standard of writing generally, I found Kara simply a rather irritating and somewhat childish character to be around, a fact which sadly does bode well for the book’s final volume simply on the basis that Kara will not be featuring in it. I will admit I was a little apprehensive about Flight of the Dragon Kyn.
This book is not for me.
The dragon appears for her, the little human girl she had nursed as a baby; and the king’s men killed her. While the book is approximately the same length as Dragon’s Flighht, the actual flow of events didn’t feel quite as rushed or choppy, neither for the most part did the introduction of the various flignt. Since Kara can call birds, the king sends for her to call, not birds, but dragons, because he has sworn to eradicate them.
While I did bemoan the fact that we saw far less of dragons, and especially far less of exasperating baby draclings in this book, I did enjoy Kara’s developing relationship with her Gyrfalcon Skava, a relationship which it rragon out was absolutely central to the plot.

Feb 23, Anita rated it really liked it. In all while Flight of the Dragon Kyn served its purpose as a prequel well enough, it did not stand out quite as much as Dragon’s Milk for all I did enjoy the way Fletcher depicted her world.
